I am 1st generation Liberian in my family born in America. I grew up in New York. Being from New York I got a chance to preview all facets of fashion, but there was always one type I never saw a lot of. I am absolutely amazed at something that was once sort of taboo in fashion, is now in demand............AFRICAN PRINTS & FABRIC!!!!!!!!!!!!! The impact that African Print/ fabric has made in the fashion industry is phenomenal. It's unfortunate that it has taken the western world so long to catch up;  to what Africa and our people have always embraced.
A few American designers have used some African print in some their designs in the past. NEVER have any of them have had an impact of styling, architecture, and accessorizing the looks in an intricate fashion like today's African Designers. I am over joyed to see the beauty I always saw, but never could explain being displayed on the catwalk. Not just any catwalk, the NYC catwalk!
African Fashion Week New York is were you can quench your exotic thirst timeless fashion. It runs from July 11-17. If you can't be there youtube it. I promise you the designs you will see, won't disappoint.......they inspire!
Their are a few designers that I am sure will be household names. They are talented, creative, and NEVER AFRAID OF TAKING FASHION HIGHER THAN YOUR EXPECTATIONS!!!!!! I love their designs, and I wish I could own every piece from each designer. . I would like to thank Luxury Untamed for what I thought was a great lesson, concerning fashion and Africa. Watch this video and learn please.
There are so many designers I could name but I want to share designers I am in love with, at the moment. Vixen's you see them trust you will fall in love too!
